Meghan TanMeghan Tan, age 9, of Westford (formerly of Acton), won two concerto competitions on Jan. 26th, competing against mostly high school-age musicians. She is the youngest pianist ever to win the Quincy Symphony Orchestra competition, and will perform the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 as featured soloist at the QSO annual Young Artist Performs concert at the Lloyd Hill Performing Arts Center (Quincy High School), Quincy, MA on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 P.M. She will be presented with a $1,000 Scholarship at the concert.
As the winner of the Metrowest Symphony 2013 Concerto Competition, Meghan will play the Shostakovich Concerto at the MSO Family Concert at 3 PM on March 10th at the Joseph P. Keefe Technical Auditorium, 750 Winter Street, Framingham, MA. Ticket prices are $15 for General Admission, $10 for Seniors and Students, and Children under 12 are free. She will also appear with the same concerto on March 16th at the CAMSA Concerto Concert at Steinert Hall in Boston (free admission). Meghan has studied piano since age 6 with Ronald Kmiec of Carlisle. She appeared along with other talented performers at the American Fine Arts Festival Winner’s Concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall last May, being selected in competitive auditions from over 650 musicians nationwide. She has given performances in CT, MA, NH, NYC, and RI, including CAMSA workshops and the Honors Recital. She has competed in 12 Competitions since age 8, receiving the Jury’s Discretionary Award at the University of RI Extravaganza Competition, 3rd Prize at the Third Annual Kenneth Darrell Piano Competition in Nashua, and Honorable Mention at the Third Chopin International Competition in Hartford, CT in 2012. Meghan will perform her solo recital debut later this year with a program featuring Bach’s Partita No. 1, works by Chopin, Alkan, and Liszt, as well as the Appassionata of Beethoven. Her favorite activity, besides the piano, is reading. She likes to swim, play tennis, and also enjoys walking outside to breathe in fresh air. Her favorite school subject is science and favorite TV programs are Fetch with Ruff Ruffman and Design Squad. |
