2019 Eleanor B. Nelson Concerto CompetitionCompetitionThe competition will be held at the Cove Fine Arts Center at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA on Sunday, February 2, 2020. Competitors will be expected to perform a concerto in its entirety (all movements), from memory, accompanied by their own pianist. Competitors should prepare a piece that has an orchestra accompaniment and is at least 10 minutes. Members of the QSO will evaluate the performances and determine the winner. All decisions of the competition jury are final.
Note: In the event of inclement weather, the competition will be rescheduled to Sunday, February 10, 2020. WinningThe winner of the competition will appear as the featured soloist on the QSO's Spring Concert, which takes place at 2:30pm on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Quincy High School. They will also be presented with the $1000 Robert E. Brown Scholarship.
EligibilityThe competition is open to any student who has not yet graduated from high school as of the date of the competition.
How to ApplyStudents may enter online by filling out this Google form. After filling out the form, print it, have the applicant sign, and include a non-refundable registration fee of $25, payable to the Quincy Symphony Orchestra. The deadline to apply is Saturday, December 28, 2019.
